How We Handle Food & Treats During Visits

At Wags & Wiggles, dog daycare and boarding are about more than just fun. We also focus on your dog’s health and well-being. While your pup enjoys their pup-cation, our trained staff keeps them happy, active, and most importantly, healthy.

One of the most important parts of that care? Proper food management.

We monitor eating habits, weight, and food allergies.

Feeding Schedules That Fit Every Dog's Needs

All dogs follow a structured feeding schedule. This helps maintain their routine consistency and supports digestion, energy, and overall comfort. We also accommodate dogs with special medical or dietary needs.

Individualized Feeding Spaces

Each dog is fed separately in a kennel, crate, or suite. This prevents food guarding and ensures the correct portion sizes are served. We never feed dogs together.

Tracking Your Dog’s Weight During Boarding

Playtime burns a significant amount of calories, especially during extended periods. That’s why we track your dog’s weight as part of our health monitoring.

Here’s how it works:

  • We weigh your dog at check-in for overnight stays

  • Weight is rechecked every five days

  • If they lose more than 5%, we notify you right away

Together, we’ll decide on the next step, such as increasing food portions (if packed), adding rest breaks, or purchasing food on-site.

Tip: For high-energy dogs, pack a bit extra food—just in case!

Keeping Food Allergy Dogs Safe: The Purple Tag System

Food allergies are taken extremely seriously at Wags & Wiggles. We give dogs with food allergies a purple name band for safety, serving as a visual reminder to all staff that these pups require extra care around food.

Purple tags alert staff to:
• Use only the dog’s provided food
• Keep them away from shared treat times
• Move them to separate play areas during any Quick Train sessions (where treats are used)

Dogs with purple tags do not receive treats on the play floor, and we ensure no extras are given during feeding time. It’s all part of how we keep your dog safe and healthy.

Helping Picky Eaters Thrive

We know some pups can be particular about their food, especially in a new environment. For picky eaters without food allergies, we offer gentle encouragement with approved food toppers like:
• Low-sodium chicken broth
• Baby food (plain meat flavors)
• Shredded cheese

These additions help entice dogs to eat while still staying within a safe, controlled diet.

Feeding Logs & Communication

We track every single meal.  After a dog eats, the kitchen staff logs how the dog ate into our software.  Did the dog eat all, eat most, eat some, or eat none? The staff can see trends and take action if a dog is not eating their meals. The staff will record notes on what enticements were effective.  Did the dog need their food warmed?  This is how we keep track of the different employees and dogs that come through each day. We offer refrigerators, freezers, and microwaves for special dietary needs.

Quick Train Sessions—Safe and Fun for All

Our complimentary Quick Train sessions happen twice daily at both of our locations. These short, positive reinforcement sessions help dogs practice good manners like:
• Sit
• Stay
• Come
• Wait for the gate
• Fun tricks like “shake”

Because treats (like salmon Zukes) are used during training, any dogs with food allergies are moved into a different section before training begins. This extra step helps them stay safe without missing out on the fun.

During quick train, all treats are kept in the trainers bait pouch and handed out one at a time.  They are never scattered on the floor.

Healthy, Happy, and Well-Cared For

We’re committed to giving your dog the best experience possible during their stay. With structured feeding, allergy awareness, tailored enrichment, and regular health monitoring, your dog is in the care of capable hands.
